Los Ríos Region

The Región de Los Ríos (or XIV Region) is currently one of the 15 regions of Chile. It is bordered on the north by the Región de la Araucanía, on the east by Argentina, on the south by the Región de los Lagos and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. Geographically, the region is located in the small southern Chile.

It was created from the former province of Valdivia, which until then had been part of the Región de los Lagos. A corresponding law came into force on 2 October 2007. The new region has an area of ​​18,429.5 km ² and a population of 373 712 people (2006). Capital of the region is Valdivia. The region is divided into the provinces of Valdivia and Ranco ( capital city of La Unión ).

The region was a focus of the German immigration to Chile in the 19th and 20th centuries.
