Los Siete Sabios de México

Los Siete de México Sabios to German " The Seven Sages of Mexico," is the title of a 1950 published biography work of the Mexican author and politician Luis Calderón Vega of the seven founding members of the Sociedad de Conferencias y Conciertos.

The title and content of the book

Calderón chose the title based on the Seven Sages of Greece, not in direct reference to the seven persons described. The basis of the book's title later designated as so-called " seven wise men " group of persons is referred to as "Generation of 1915 ". Among them are:

  • Alfonso Caso y Andrade, archaeologist, lawyer, politician and rector of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México ( UNAM),
  • Antonio Castro Leal, expert English and Mexican literature and rector of UNAM,
  • Manuel Gómez Morín, founder of the Partido Acción Nacional ( PAN) and rector of UNAM,
  • Vicente Lombardo Toledano, known Mexican labor leader, party and university founder,
  • Jesús Moreno Baca, lawyer,
  • Alberto Vázquez del Mercado, Judge of the Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación ( SCJN ) and
  • Teófilo Olea y Leyva, Judge of the SCJN.

The Sociedad de Conferencias y Conciertos

The Sociedad de Conferencias y Conciertos (German: Society for conferences and concerts) was founded in 1916 to promote cultural awareness of the students. In addition to the founding members were later joined Narciso Bassols, Luis Enrique Erro, Daniel Cosío Villegas, Juvencio Ibarra, Miguel Palacios Macedo and Manuel Toussaint the Sociedad de Conferencias y Conciertos joined.
