Lothar Baumgarten

Lothar Baumgarten ( born 1944 in Rheinberg ) is a German artist.

Life and work

Baumgarten 1968 studied at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and from 1961 to 1971 at the State Art Academy Dusseldorf, including one year as a student of Joseph Beuys, whose anthroposophical ideas also characterize his work. In 1972 he had his first solo exhibition at the Galerie Konrad Fischer, Dusseldorf. 1978/79 he held for eighteen months in the case of two strains of the Yanomami.

His artistic work is characterized by installations and situational artistic works.

Baumgarten is at the University of Arts in Berlin, where he also lives and works since 1994 professor.
