Lothar Meggendorfer

Lothar Meggendorfer ( born November 6, 1847 in Munich, † July 7, 1925 in Munich) was a German artist, children's book author, painter, draftsman and illustrator.

Life

In 1862 Meggendorfer took up the study of art at the Royal Academy in Munich, in 1866, he delivered the first reviews for the flying leaves and from 1868 for the Munich picture sheet. 1889 appeared the magazine from Lothar Meggendorfer 's funny pictures folder, which was continued from 1890 as a humorous monthly magazine, and from 1897 to 1925 as Meggendorfer leaves. Besides originated about 150 books that have been very successful in German-speaking and largely also in translations in England and America.

Its current popularity owes Meggendorfer primarily his game picture books - books with moving images. 1878, published in 1879, the book Living Pictures emerged as a Christmas gift for his children.
