Lothian (Scottish Parliament electoral region)

Lothian is one of Scotland's eight electoral regions of the Scottish Parliament election. It was created on the basis of the Scotland Act 1998 as Lothians region. As part of the revision of the electoral regions in 2011, small areas of the Council Area of Midlothian constituency South Scotland were slammed and the Lothians region renamed Lothian. Lothian includes the towns of Bathgate, Dalkeith, Edinburgh, Linlithgow, Livingston and Musselburgh. The first elections were held on 6 May 1999 as part of the general election.

At the Central Scotland region borders clockwise starting in the north and the Regions: Mid Scotland and Fife, Scotland and South Central Scotland.

Geographical breakdown

Under the Lothian region nine constituencies of the Council Areas Edinburgh, West Lothian and Midlothian are summarized. They corresponded regarding naming and cut the constituencies to the British Parliament. Each represents a specific constituencies by majority vote of Representatives. In addition, seven Additional Members are elected.

1999-2011

2011 -

As part of the revision before the parliamentary elections in 2011 a restructuring of constituencies and electoral regions took place. These small parts were added to the South of Scotland region in the southeast of the Lothians region and renamed the choice region in Lothian. According to the new classification, the region includes only nine constituencies.
