Lotte Anker

Lotte Anker (born 1958 in Copenhagen) is a Danish jazz saxophonist (soprano, alto, tenor ) and composer of free jazz and improvised music.

She studied classical piano and moved in 1980 to the saxophone and jazz. 1980-1984 she studied music at the University of Copenhagen and attended courses of Dave Liebman, Marilyn Mazur, John Tchicai and David Murray. She also visited composition classes with Bob Brookmeyer and the Danish composer. She played among others in different groups of Marilyn Mazur and Peter Brötzmann, Marc Ducret, Tim Berne and Andrew Cyrille. The first recording they made ​​with the Primi band in 1985. Besides she worked for theater and dance projects. In 1988 she founded his own quartet with pianist mat Petersen to the 1992, the trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer met ( " Being" 1993). In 1995 she was a member of free-jazz trio " anchor Friis- Poulsen " with guitarist Hasse Poulsen and bassist Peter Friis- Nielsen ( " Infinite Blueness " 1996). In 2003 she founded another trio with pianist Craig Taborn and drummer Gerald Cleaver ( album " Triptych " 2005 Leo Records).

She teaches composition, arrangement and improvisation in Copenhagen on Rytmisk Conservatory of Music and teaches workshops.
