Lou Macari

Luigi " Lou" Macari ( born June 4, 1949 in Largs ) is a former Scottish football player and manager.

Sports career

The midfielder began his career at Celtic. 1972 he moved to Manchester United where he played 329 league games until 1984, in which he scored 78 goals. At the end of his active career, he then went to Swindon Town, for whom he once scored 3 goals in 36 league games.

For the Scottish national team, he ran from 24 May 1972 until June 7, 1978 a total of 24 times, and scored 5 goals. He also belonged to the World Cup squad in 1978.

After the end of his career at Swindon Town he remained with that club now as a manager. The other stations in this profession were West Ham United, Birmingham City, Stoke City (twice), Celtic and Huddersfield Town.

  • Later, he was one of the developers of the computer game Super League Manager.
  • His sons Michael and Paul were also players at Stoke City when he was manager there.
  • His youngest son Jonathan committed suicide in 1999 when his contract was terminated with Nottingham Forest.
  • He is currently employed by various television channels as part-time moderator.
