Lou Yun

Lou Yun (Chinese楼 云/楼 云, Pinyin Lou Yun, born June 23, 1964 in Hangzhou) is a former Chinese gymnast.

He won the gold medal in horse jumping as well as one silver medal in the floor exercise and in the team all-around at the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Four years later at the 1988 Games in Seoul he won again in the horse jump in the floor exercise, he finished in third place. He thus became the first athlete in his home country, the Olympic champion in two consecutive games.

At the World Championships he won with successes in 1983 in the team all-around and on bars and floor exercise in 1987 and in the horse jump a total of four titles. In addition, he won a bronze medal in the individual all-around, 1985, a silver medal in the team all-around and the horse jump and 1987: a silver medal in the team all-around at the World Championships in 1983.

Various gymnastic elements, a handspring with a stretched front flip and a half times the rotation in the horse jump and a double salto sideways in the floor exercises are named after him. He ended his active career in 1990 and moved to the United States, where he has worked as a businessman five years later.
