Loudoun Castle

The oldest part of the palace complex are the four remaining floors of a built in the 15th or 16th century defensive and residential tower. From another palace from the 17th century, the Earls of Loudoun served as a headquarters, just a short piece of the wall is obtained. The visible today castle was built 1804-1811 on behalf of Flora Mure- Campbell, Marchioness of Hastings by the architect Archibald Elliot.

On 1 December 1941, the castle was destroyed by a fire and has since then presented ruin dar. It is still family owned and is not open to the public for safety reasons. Since 1997 it is in the Scottish Heritage Register in the category A, ie the highest degree of protection listed.
