Lough Allen

The Lough Allen ( Irish Loch Aillionn ) is a lake in the Republic of Ireland, which is in the course of the Shannon.

It is beside Lough Derg and Lough Ree one of the three and also the northernmost of the great lakes formed by the Shannon on his way through Ireland and feeds. The Lough Allen is centrally located in the northern part of the "Green Island". The majority of the surface of the lake belongs to the County Leitrim, a small portion is located in County Roscommon. The lake is located south of the source of the Shannon and runs in a north -south direction. To the west of the lake the road R280 runs to the east of Lough Allen is accessible via the R207. North of the lake is the R200.
