Louis Alexandre Piccinni

Louis Alexandre Piccinni ( Alessandro Luigi Piccinni, born September 10, 1779 Paris, † April 24, 1850 in Paris) was a French composer.

Piccinni was born into an Italian family of musicians. His grandfather was the composer Niccolò Piccinni, his uncle, the composer Luigi Piccinni. He studied at the Conservatoire de Paris composition with Jean -François Lesueur and then worked as a piano accompanist at the Théâtre Feydeau, from 1802 at the Paris Opera.

From 1803 he was conductor at the Theatre de la Porte Saint -Martin, besides he worked as a singing teacher. From 1836 to 1840 he headed the Conservatory of Boulogne, from then until 1844 in Toulouse. He then moved to Strasbourg, where he headed the summer Orchestra of Baden -Baden. In 1849 he returned to Paris.

Piccinni composed more than 200 stage works, including operas, cantatas, vaudeville and opera, moreover, romances, sonatas and piano pieces
