Louis Applebaum

Louis Applebaum CC ( born April 3, 1918 in Toronto, † April 19, 2000 ) was a Canadian composer.

Life

Louis Applebaum was the son of Morris ( * 1895) and Fanny (* 1899) Applebaum was born in Toronto. His parents were Polish Jews who had some years before emigrating to Canada. Applebaum studied piano from 1928 at the University of Toronto. In 1940 he went to New York to study composition. He composed 1942-1960 250 different film scores. In 1946, the music composed by him film music of the war drama Battle thunderstorm was nominated at Monte Cassino for an Oscar. In 1955, he called in the context of the Stratford Shakespeare Festival, Stratford Music Festival to life.

Applebaum was appointed Officer of the Order of Canada in 1995 and to Companion of the Order of Canada in 1976.
