Louis B. Goodall

Louis Bertrand Goodall ( born September 23, 1851 in Winchester, Cheshire County, New Hampshire, † June 26, 1935 in Sanford, Maine ) was an American politician. Between 1917 and 1921 he represented the state of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Even as an infant moved with his parents Louis Goodall in 1852 to Troy, where he went to the public schools. In the years 1862 and 1863 he attended private schools in Thompson (Connecticut). Then he studied until 1866 at the Vermont Episcopal Institute in Burlington ( Vermont). After another private school in England Goodall finished his training in 1870 at the Kimball Union Academy in Meridian (New Hampshire). Then he went into his father's business in Sanford.

Since 1874 Louis Goodall worked in the wool processing industry. He was also involved in the railroad business. Later he founded the Goodall Worsted Co. clothing factory Goodall was president of the Sanford National Bank since 1896. In 1904, he led the delegation of the State of Maine at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition, in St. Louis on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase World's Fair held. 1909 Goodall was a member of the senior staff of Governor Bert Fernald.

Politically, Goodall member of the Republican Party. In 1916, he was the first electoral district of Maine in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC selected. There he entered on March 4, 1917, the successor of Asher Hinds. After a re-election in 1918 he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1921 two legislative sessions. Since 1919 he was chairman of the second election committee ( Committee on Elections No.. 2). His first term in the House of Representatives was determined by the events of the First World War. In addition, while Goodall's time were discussed and approved by Congress in the 18th and the 19th Amendment. It was about the prohibition of alcohol and the nationwide introduction of women's suffrage.

In 1920, Goodall opted not to run again. He returned to Sanford, where he again devoted himself to his business interests. There he is on June 26, 1935 and passed away.
