Louis D. Lighton

Louis D. Lighton ( born November 25, 1895 in Omaha, Nebraska; † February 1, 1963 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain) was an American screenwriter and film producer.

Life

Lighton began his career in the film business, first as a screenwriter. In the 1920s he was involved as such in 40 productions, most recently in 1927 in Wings. In 1928 he turned to film production and up to and including 1951 was responsible for 36 films. On several occasions he collaborated with director Henry Hathaway.

Several of his films, among them Manuel (1937) and The Test Pilot ( 1938) were nominated for the Oscar for Best Film in each category. Lighton itself was in 1937 awarded the Medal of Honor at the Photoplay Awards.
