Louis de La Palud

Louis de La Palud (* 1370-1380; † September 21, 1451 in Rome) was from 1431 to 1433 Bishop of Lausanne from 1441 to his death Bishop of Saint -Jean -de- Maurienne and cardinal.

Biography

Louis came from a family from Bresse, he was the son of Aymé de La Palud, Lord of Varambon and Alix de Corgenon. After studying at the Sorbonne, he entered the Benedictine Order in Tournus. He was abbot of Ambronay 1404 and 1413 Abbot of Tournus. Louis took part in the Councils of the Council of Constance (1414-1418), Siena ( 1423 ) and Basel ( 1431-1449 ). 1431 he was appointed Bishop of Lausanne. Pope Eugene IV in 1433 transferred him to Avignon. Louis did not accept the transfer and was confirmed by the Council of Basel in 1435, prompting him Eugene IV in 1436 excommunicated. The antipope Felix V. appointed him cardinal in 1440 and 1441 as Bishop of Saint -Jean -de- Maurienne. 1449 he joined Pope Nicholas V, who forgave him and him in 1449 appointed a Cardinal Priest of Santa Anastasia.
