Louis E. Atkinson

Louis Evans Atkinson ( born April 16, 1841 in Delaware Township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania, † February 5, 1910 in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1893 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Louis Atkinson attended the public schools of his home. After a subsequent study of medicine at the College of the City of New York and his 1861 was admitted as a doctor, he began to work in this profession. During the Civil War he served until 1865 in the medical service in the army of the Union. He himself was injured and could then no longer be working as a doctor. He studied law and was admitted to the bar in 1870. Then he began to practice in this profession in Mifflintown. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career.

In the congressional elections of 1882 Atkinson was in the 18th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Horatio Gates Fisher on March 4, 1883. After four elections he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1893 five legislative sessions. From 1889 to 1891 he was chairman of the committee responsible for supervising the expenditure of the Ministry of Finance. In 1892, he initially intended for reelection and was nominated by his party even for re-election. But he changed his mind in the short term and withdrew his application.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Louis Atkionson again worked as a lawyer. He was also Chief Judge of the 41st Judicial District of Pennsylvania for one year. He died on 5 February 1910 in Mifflintown, where he was also buried.
