Louis-Ernest Dubois

Louis -Ernest Cardinal Dubois ( born September 1, 1856 in Saint- Calais, France, † September 23, 1929 in Paris) was Archbishop of Rouen and Paris.

Life

Louis -Ernest Dubois studied at the seminary of Le Mans, the subjects philosophy and Catholic theology. He received on 20 September 1879, the sacrament of Holy Orders, and then worked as a parish pastor in the diocese of Le Mans. From 1888 he was editor of the newspaper " Semaine du fidèle " In 1893, he founded the " Union Historique du Maine ." In 1895 he received the appointment as honorary canon of the Cathedral of Le Mans. In the years 1898-1901 he served as vicar general of the administration of the diocese of Le Mans.

In 1901 he received the appointment as Bishop of Verdun, but was released from this position on his own. He received episcopal consecration on July 2, 1901 by Marie- Prosper -Adolphe de Bonfils, Bishop of Le Mans. 1909 he was appointed by Pope Pius X. Archbishop of Bourges, in 1916 gave him Pope Benedict XV. the management of the Archdiocese of Rouen and took him as a cardinal priest with the titular church of Santa Maria in Aquiro to the College of Cardinals. 1920 commissioned him the Pope to head the Archdiocese of Paris. Cardinal Dubois took part in the conclave of 1922. In 1926, he acted as papal legate to the Pope at the National Marian Congress in Chartres. Louis -Ernest Dubois died on 23 September 1929 in Paris and was buried in the crypt of the local cathedral.
