Louis-Gabriel Guillemain

Louis -Gabriel Guillemain ( born November 5, 1705 Paris, † October 1, 1770 ) was a French composer and violinist.

Life

Louis -Gabriel Guillemain was a pupil of the Count de Rochechouard, where he received his first violin lessons. On a longer trip to Italy he could expand his knowledge. Guillemain was a pupil of the famous violinist Giovanni Battista Somis and Jean -Marie Leclair.

From 1729 he was member of the orchestra at the Opera of Lyon, in 1734 he was concertmaster of the Royal Academy in Dijon. In the following years, he traveled to Paris, where he was active in many areas of music, both as a composer and violinist. 1759 he appeared as a violinist in the royal service. During his life he gained important positions at the court of Versailles. Apparently not satisfied with his life, he took on the trip from Paris to Versailles with 14 stab wounds life.

The contemporary of Louis -Claude Daquin wrote in his letter about famous people: " When you speak full of genius, vivacity and fire of a man, one can not but the royal violinist Mr. Guillemain to mention.
