Louis Georges Gouy

Louis Georges Gouy ( born February 19, 1854 in Vals- les- Bains, Canton Vals- les -Bains, † January 27, 1926 ) was a French physicist.

Biography

He was a professor in Lyon. Together with David Leonard Chapman (1869-1958) he developed the theory of the Helmholtz double layer Gouy -Chapman double layer on. Experimental discovery of the Gouy phase shift in the propagation of light as a bundle of rays through a focus. Significant experimental studies for final clarification of the Brownian movement, which in a gas have identical cause a movement of the molecules.
