Louis Gonzaga, Duke of Nevers
Luigi Gonzaga (also Ludovico, * October 22, 1539, † October 23, 1595 in Nesle ) was an Italian nobleman of the house of Gonzaga, and by marriage Duke of Nevers, Count, later Duke of Rethel.
He was the fourth son of the Duke Federico II Gonzaga of Mantua and Montferrat.
He married on March 4, 1565 Henriette de La Marck ( * October 31, 1542; † January 24, 1601 ), daughter of Duke Francis I of Nevers. Since the father was died in 1562 and his two sons ( Francis II, and Jacob ) had died leaving behind in 1563 and 1564 and also without issue, Henriette was at the time of their wedding, the heiress of her father.
From the right of his wife, thus he received in 1565, the Duchy of Nevers and Rethel the county, which in 1581 by Henry III. has also been charged by France to a duchy. With Henriette Luigi had five children:
