Louis Gunther of Nassau

Count Louis Gunther of Nassau ( * February 15, 1575 in Dillenburg, † September 12, 1604, fallen before Sluis ) Dutch lieutenant-general of the cavalry during the Eighty Years' War and Count of Nassau- Katzenelenbogen.

He was the youngest son of John VI. of Nassau and his first wife Elisabeth of Leuchtenberg ( 1537-1579 ).

Like many of his brothers he fought with his cousin Moritz on the part of the States General. In 1596 he took part in the capture of Cádiz as a volunteer. His cousin got him in 1600 to Lieutenant General and already in the Battle of Nieuwpoort he could excel. Then he could take Wachtendonk. In 1602 he was present during the attack on Luxembourg. In 1604 he took part in the siege of Sluis, where he got a fever of which he died then.

It was June 7 1601 Countess Anna Margarethe von Manderscheid - Gerolstein (* August 10, 1575, † March 4, 1606 ). Anna Margaret was the daughter of Count Johann Gerhard von Manderscheid - Gerolstein and the widow of Wirich VI. Daun -Falkenstein. The marriage remained childless.
