Louis I, Count of Löwenstein

Ludwig I of Lowenstein (* September 29, 1463 in Heidelberg, † March 28, 1523 in Lion's Arch ) was the founder of the house of Löwenstein- Wertheim.

Life

Louis was the son of the Elector Frederick the Victorious (1425-1476) of the Palatinate from its connection with Klara Tott (or Dett ). His father was the maid of honor know the ducal court in Munich in 1459. They got together the two sons Ludwig and his older brother Friedrich ( 1461-1474 ).

Ludwig I, is considered to be the progenitor of the house Löwenstein -Wertheim with the still existing lines of the Protestant Prince of Löwenstein -Wertheim -Freudenberg and the Catholic Princes of Löwenstein -Wertheim -Rosenberg.
