Louis IV, Elector Palatine

Louis IV, called the Gentle, ( born January 1, 1424 Heidelberg; † August 13, 1449 in Worms) was Count Palatine and Elector of the Palatinate from 1436 to 1449.

Life

His parents were Louis III. of the Palatinate (1378-1436) and Princess Matilda of Savoy ( 1390-1438 ). After his father died in 1436, took over for his uncle Ludwig, Count Palatine Otto I, the guardianship until Ludwig was declared of age in 1442. 1444 he fended off as Imperial Captain of the Armagnacs attacks.

When he died in 1449 at age 25 in Worms, his only son Philip were first his brother Frederick, his successor. Ludwig is buried in Heidelberg Church of Holy Spirit.

Elector Ludwig IV married on October 18, 1445 in Heidelberg, the Princess Margaret of Savoy, daughter of the Duke Amadeus VIII, later antipope Felix V ( 1383-1451 ) and his wife Princess Marie of Burgundy. From the marriage of the son, Philip emerged for the upright.
