Louis Joseph Seutin

Louis Joseph, Baron Seutin (* 1793 in Nivelles, † February 6, 1862 in Brussels) was a Belgian physician and surgeon.

Seutin studied medicine, and took in his early years as a doctor at the Battle of Waterloo part.

Seutin 1830. According to Belgian independence senior physician of the Belgian army and the same physician to the Belgian King Leopold I Seutin led 1834 the paste bandage for healing of bone fractures. This association was later replaced by a plaster cast, but still holding out until the beginning of the 20th century.

1834 Seutin chief surgeon at St. Peter 's Hospital and was also a professor of surgery. In 1848 he turned to the first chloroform for anesthesia of a child whose broken leg had to be splinted. His improved methods of hygiene also led to a dramatic decline in the death rate of mothers in the postpartum period.

Louis Joseph Seutin in 1853 appointed Senator. He died on 6 February 1862 in Brussels.
