Louis Mitchell

Louis A. Mitchell (* December 17, 1895, † September 2, 1957 ) was an American jazz drummer and bandleader

Life

Louis Mitchell was an African-American bandleader who successfully occurred in the 1910s and 1920s in Europe. Mitchell, who began his career in minstrel shows, came up with the Southern Symphonists ' Quintet in 1912 to New York City. With Vernon and Irene Castle, he first went to Europe and came from 1915 in the UK in vaudeville stages with the Seven Spades on. He had a commitment to the Piccadilly restaurant and went with a Varietyshow named Jordan & Mitchell on tour. Eventually he founded his Syncopating Septets and excited with his drum solos stir.

In 1918 he returned to New York and was a drummer in James Reese Europe's Clef Club Band. After he had put together its own formation, he went to Paris, where he performed in hotels and dance clubs. 1919/20, also played Sidney Bechet at his UK tour in his band. In the 1920s he had with his Jazz Kings a five-year commitment which at the Casino de Paris, which was located in the Rue de Clichy. For Pathé, he recorded 1922/23. Mitchell then had his own American Restaurant Mitchell's in Montmartre, where, inter alia, Lizzy Miles occurred. Mitchell was still active as a musician and music manager in Paris, until he had to return to the United States at the beginning of the Second World War.
