Louis Neefs

Louis Neefs ( born August 8, 1937 in Gierle, † December 25, 1980 in Lier; actually Ludwig Neefs ) was a Belgian singer and presenter.

Life

Neefs trained as a draftsman at the College of Mechelen, when he joined the local choir and learned to play guitar. His musical activities were initially only for recreational purposes until in the late 50s member of the " Sun Spot " was. With appearances and talent contests his distinctive voice fell on the famous talent scout Jacques Kluger, who had already discovered some great singers as Bobbejaan Schoepen. Kluger and Schoepen drew the attention of record companies and Neefs this yet signed a record deal in 1958, which followed in 1960 the first album. He made it with several songs in the Flemish charts and was also known in the Netherlands.

1967 Neefs was selected, Belgium with the song Ik heb zorgen the Euro Vision Song Contest in Vienna to represent. He reached the seventh place there. In 1969, he was allowed his homeland again represented at the Euro Vision Song Contest, this time in Madrid. His song was called Jennifer Jennings. Again he placed seventh.

Neefs could continue to celebrate success; his biggest hit was his song Margrietje, which he published in 1972. Other famous songs by him are Mijn Vriend Benjamin, Aan het van Oostende beach, Martine and Laat Ons Een Bloem. Neefs was also active as a voice actor, so he borrowed Thomas O'Malley in the Dutch version of Disney's Aristocats his voice. In addition, he hosted numerous Televisions - u. Radio broadcasts for the Flemish broadcaster VRT. Politically, he was active and was a city councilor in Mechelen.

On Christmas Day 1980 crashed Louis Neefs and his wife Liliane in a car accident in Lier. The couple had two sons, Ludwig and Günther. The latter is now a well known singer in Belgium.

On August 5, 2007, a bust was in Neefs hometown Gierle, to mark the 70th birthday, the artist would have celebrated this year, revealed.
