Louis-Nicolas Robert

Nicholas -Louis Robert ( born December 2, 1761 Paris, † August 8, 1828 in Vernouillet ) was a French inventor.

Life

Robert developed in 1798 the first Fourdrinier paper machine in the world and had patented the invention on January 18, 1799. Robert was employed by the French Army. After leaving the military life, he took a job at the printer Pierre -Francois Didot and moved shortly thereafter to Didot's son, Saint Léger Didot, who ran a paper mill. There, Robert cared mainly about the accounting. During this work, the idea to build a machine for making paper matured. In 1798, the prototype was ready. With this invention, Robert ushered in the era of mechanized paper production.
