Louis P. Lochner

Louis Paul Lochner ( born February 22, 1887 in Springfield, Illinois, † January 8, 1975 in Wiesbaden ) was an American journalist and author of numerous books.

Work

Lochner was from 1909 to 1919 foreign correspondent for the Associated Press (AP) in Germany and from 1928 to 1942 director of the American news agency AP in Berlin. He was a commentator of the Nazi period and critical friend of Germany with connection to the resistance, as a war correspondent. After the war he was opposed to the Morgenthau Plan. He initiated a private relief operation for German. Later he chose Wiesbaden as his retirement home.

Lochner was president of the Overseas Press Club in New York. In addition, he has written, translated and edited numerous books.
