Louis Palmer

Louis Palmer (born 1971 in Budapest ) is a Swiss teacher, global environmental activist and a " solar pioneer".

Life

Louis Palmer grew up in Lucerne. Since he was small, it was his dream to show the world the opportunities and the social value of renewable energy. After school, he was so teachers. After several trips to distant lands came to him in his vision, and he made the first steps towards solar energy. In 1996 he crossed the United States with a microlight. For this experiment, he was given the award " Most Outstanding flight of the year" by the American microlight association. Since this trip, his enthusiasm for unique travel was born.

Solar Taxi

2004 began Louis Palmer, with the help of sponsors and technical support to build an electrically powered car that gets its energy from entrained and stationary photovoltaic modules. He called the solar taxi vehicle. Regarding the technical expertise, he worked with the College of Engineering and Architecture Lucerne ( HTA) and three other Swiss universities. He orbited between 2007 and 2008 with this car the world. With the Solar Taxi he put it back over 54,000 miles and drove through over 40 countries. In 2008, the tour ended after 18 months back to Lucerne. Meanwhile, made his companion, Erik Schmitt, a documentary about the trip with the same title. In 2009, he won the European Solar Prize.

Zero Race

Motivated by his previous experiences, was Louis Palmer initiator and tour director of Zero Races. The so-called Zero Emission Race took place between August 2010 and February 2011. The goal was, in 80 days to go around the world to show that zero-emission vehicles can achieve this. Louis Palmer invited four teams to the competition. The selected criteria were formulated quite concretely: They had to be driven by an electric motor, they had to be able to travel a certain distance, and they had to be able to transport at least two people. Through this race succeeded Louis Palmer again to draw attention to his vision of a sustainable life.

WAVE - World Advanced Vehicle Expedition

Louis Palmer's annual tour started for the first time in 2011 in Paris and ended in September 2011 in Prague. Here it 25 electric cars from over 8 countries accompanied by his WAVE. The tour took in 30 cities just to show the public that electric cars are sustainable, are fun and strong. All vehicles had their own energy from renewable energy produced, such as wind or solar energy, and this fed into the grid. In December 2011, the second WAVE took place in India. Five electric cars took part in this tour from Mumbai to Bangkok. The WAVE2012 went from 9 to 22 September 2012 from Genova (Italy ) via Switzerland, Germany and Holland to England with stages in London and Oxford. In 2013 led the route from Vienna to Zurich, directly to Zürifäscht.

Louis Palmer's vision

In his travels, Louis Palmer is asked again and again to talk about his vision of solar energy and his dream of a better world with renewable energy. His experience as a teacher makes his special way of communicating with people. As a speaker at many conferences he had the opportunity in front of scientists, politicians and students to speak. To instruct the audience to inspire people to their consumption patterns to expand reflective awareness about the environment, has great significance for him. In 2009 he was awarded the European Solar Prize and in 2011 the prize Champions of Earth Award for its achievements in the category "Inspiration and Action ".
