Louis Sarno

Louis Sarno (born 1954 in Newark, New Jersey) is an American traveler and musicologist. He explores the music of the Baka Pygmies in Central Africa.

As a boy he was interested in classical music, particularly for the composers Beethoven, Schubert, Mahler and Bach. After college, he studied English and literature. When he heard on the radio the mid 80s traditional music of the pygmies, he was very intrigued and soon made their way to explore the music itself. Since 1985 Sarno lives in the trunk of the Baka in the Rainforest in the most basic living conditions.

His best-known literary work is The Song of the Forest (Song from the Forest, dt ).
