Louis Van Hege

Louis " Luigi " Marie Van Hege ( born May 8, 1889 in Uccle / Ukkel, † June 24, 1975 ) was a Belgian footballer and later bobsledder.

Career

Van Hege began his career at Royale Union Saint -Gilloise in the Brussels suburb of Forest. He played from 1907 to 1910 in the men's team of the Association, for which he ran aground 42 times and 15 times it came to scoring. At the age of 21 years, Van Hege moved in 1910 to Italy for AC Milan. His debut for Milan he gave on 27 November 1910 against the Genoa, which was won 3-0. In Milan he played five years, with Van Hege scored 97 goals in 88 games. At the outbreak of World War 1, he had to join military service in Belgium. After the war was over, Van Hege played five years at the Royale Union Saint -Gilloise, where he however only on the position of a defender was used and in 104 championship matches scoring nine goals.

With Belgium in Antwerp in 1920, he won the Olympic gold medal.

Van Hege also participated in the 1932 Olympics in Lake Placid in the two-man bobsleigh competition and finished ninth. In the 1928 Olympics he had here is part of the reserve.
