Louis van Lint

Louis van Lint ( born December 25, 1909 in Sint- Joost - ten-Node (Brussels), Belgium, † December 28, 1986 in Brussels ) was a Belgian painter.

Louis van Lint was an important representative of modern art and abstract painting of Belgium after the Second World War, with international recognition.

He studied at the Academies des Beaux -Arts de Bruxelles in Saint- Josse- ten-Noode (Brussels).

Van Lint was in 1939, along with Anne Bonnet and Gaston Bertrand, one of the founders of the artists group " Le Route Libre " in 1941, then the group " apport ". In the same year he had his first solo exhibition in the " Paleis voor Schone Kunsten " in Brussels. In 1945, Louis van Lint was co-founder of the association " La Jeune Peinture Belge " (or: " Jonge Belgian Schilderkunst " ), along with artists, Jan Cox, Gaston Bertrand, Anne Bonnet, Marc Mendelson, James Ensor and others.

The early works of Louis van Lint still characterized by a expressionist style. Later he developed his painting of a " realistic expressionism " ( during the Second World War ) the point of complete abstraction ( under the influence of Jean Bazaine ) from 1948.

From 1949 van Lint had contact with artists of the COBRA group and exhibited with them in 1951 in Liege together from. He represented Belgium at the 1948 Venice Biennale, 1959, he took part in documenta II in Kassel.
