Louis VII, Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt

Louis VII of Hesse -Darmstadt (* June 22, 1658 in Darmstadt; † August 31, 1678 in Gotha ) was in 1678 for a short time, Landgrave of Hesse- Darmstadt.

Life

Louis VII was the son of Landgrave Louis VI. (1630-1678) from his first marriage with Maria Elisabeth (1634-1665), daughter of Frederick III. of Schleswig -Holstein - Gottorp.

In 1676 he was accepted by Duke Augustus of Saxe - Weissenfels in the Fruitbearing society. He gave him the name of the company and gracious as a motto ergötzet much. As an emblem him red flowers May- was intended for. In Köthener society book, Louis found under the entry No. 865

After the death of his father, Louis VI. on April 24, 1678 was Louis VII, Landgrave of Hesse- Darmstadt. He reigned for only 18 weeks and 4 days and died on August 31, 1678 from the effects of dysentery infection in Gotha, where he wanted to get engaged to Princess Erdmuthe Dorothea of Saxe- Zeitz. His younger brother Frederick had died in 1676 after a fall. Therefore, half-brother of Louis followed by Ernst Ludwig in Hesse-Darmstadt, who was under reign of Louis stepmother Elisabeth Dorothea of Saxe- Gotha -Altenburg, the Ludwig as his father before him, had determined in his will as regent.
