Louisa County (Iowa)

The Louisa County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. In the census in 2010, the County had 11,387 inhabitants and a population density of 10.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Wapello, named after a chieftain of the Fox Indians.

Geography

The County is located in southeast Iowa on the border with Illinois, which is formed by the Mississippi River and has an area of 1,082 square kilometers, of which 41 square kilometers are water surface. It borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Louisa County was formed on December 7, 1836. It was named after Louisa Massey, who was very well known here at this time because they avenged the murder of her brother by shot the person responsible.

The first courthouse was a log cabin. 1840, the second, about 12 large 6 m single-story courthouse was built of stone. 1854 was the third built. The courthouse still in use was built in 1928.
