Louise von Gall

Johanna Louise Udalrike Gerhardine Baroness von Gall ( born September 15, 1815 in Darmstadt, † March 16, 1855 in sassenberg ) was a German writer.

Louise von Gall was the daughter of Major General Ludwig Freiherr von Gall (1769-1815), who served in Hesse- Darmstadt, and by Friederike von Gall ( née Müller, 1784-1841. ) She spent her childhood in Darmstadt, lived 1830 / 31 in the boarding Schenkendorfstraße in Mannheim, learned English, French and Italian, and received singing lessons. With her ​​mother, she made ​​several trips and lived temporarily in Vienna. There she published his first works under the pseudonym Ludwig Leo. After the death of his mother in 1841, she returned to Darmstadt, where she became friends with Ida and Ferdinand Freiligrath. With the Freiligraths and their friends, she spent the summer months in 1842 in St. Goar. At the suggestion Freiligraths they began in late 1842 correspondence with Schücking Levin, with whom she closed her marriage in Darmstadt on October 7, 1843. Louise Schücking followed her husband at all stages of his eventful life writer. With him she had five children: On 19 December 1844, son Lothar was born in Augsburg, the in Cologne on January 10, 1846, the daughter Gerhardine, on April 19, 1850 Josephine (gen. Theo ) and on July 13, 1852 son Adrian followed. The international lawyer and pacifist Walther Schücking is her grandson. In September 1852, the family moved to Schücking sassenberg at Warendorf where Louise Schücking felt strange and unhappy as a Protestant in a strict Catholic environment. Three months later, on March 16, 1855 died Louise Schücking. Against her express wish, she was buried in sassenberg. Her grave in front of the local church has been preserved.

Louise Schücking wrote ( under her maiden name Louise von Gall ) numerous short stories, several plays and two novels. She worked with several magazines and almanacs 1840-1854.

Louise von Gall, as well as Ferdinand von Gall and August von Gall belong to the family of Galls who still have descendants in Germany.
