Loupes

Loupes is a commune with 669 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine. The municipality is located in the catchment area of the city of Bordeaux, in the canton in the Arrondissement Bordeaux Creon. An important branch of industry in Loupes is the wine.

Geography

Loupes located in the southwest of France in the region of Entre -deux-mers between the rivers Garonne and Dordogne, 16 km east of Bordeaux, the capital of the Aquitaine region, and 5.2 kilometers north- west of the cantonal capital of Creon, on an average height of 75 meters above the sea level. The village is surrounded by the neighboring communities Bonnetan, Lignan -de- Bordeaux, Le Pout and Camarsac. The municipality has an area of ​​4.87 square kilometers.

Culture and sights

The Romanesque parish church of Saint- Étienne was built in the 13th or 14th century. To the east, a vestry was added in the 17th century. The church tower dates from 1764. During the 19th century restoration work was carried out.

The estate in the hamlet Rocheran was built in the 17th century, the house dates from the 18th century. A tobacco curing barn was built in 1857. The good times Dent was built in the late 17th or early 18th century. Towards the end of the 18th century it was enlarged by the construction of a new residential building. The Lartigue castle was probably built in the first half of the 19th century.

The company Château La Beaulé Guillaumette owns a winery in Loupes (La Guillaumette ) and one in Pompignac ( Beaulé ). In Loupes are also the winery and a sales point.
