Loutzviller

Loutzviller (German Lutz hamlet ) is a commune with 156 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Moselle in the Lorraine region. It belongs to the district of Sarreguemines and Canton Volmunster.

Geography

The small village is located in the northern Vosges, located in the extreme north-east of Lorraine opposite Brenschelbach on the border of Saar Pfalz-Kreis on the road D 351 from Bitche to Zweibrücken. The municipality is part of the biosphere reserve Palatinate Forest -Vosges du Nord.

History

A first mention of the village was in an account of the life of Saint Pirmin, who died at the nearby Kloster Hornbach in the year 753, under the name Ludo Villare. This should be derived from a masculine given name Ludo. The Counts of Zweibrücken- Bitsch represented the place in 1115 under the patronage of the abbey Bouzonville. Ecclesiastical Loutzviller was until 1802 the parish church for the surrounding villages Rolbing, Breidenbach and Schweyen, now the pastor of Volmunster is responsible.

Politically, Loutzviller 1790-1802 for defunct Canton Breidenbach and since then the Canton Volmunster. From 1802 to 1866 Loutzviller formed an administrative community with the neighboring Schweyen.

The Loutzviller mill, situated on the border of the Saarland in the Valley of Schwalb, developing into a spiritual center with the focus topic man and horse.

At the Loutzviller mill and the European Mill Bicycle Trail, which runs through the valleys of Hornbach, Schwalb and Bickenalb.
