Lov Grover

Lov Kumar Grover (* 1960 in Meerut, India) is an Indian- American computer scientist who has demonstrated for the first time with the development of the Grover algorithm that quantum computers are faster than classical computers.

Grover studied until 1981 at the Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi and did his Ph.D. in 1984 in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He then went to the Bell Laboratories, interrupted his activity there, however from 1987 to 1995 for an assistant professorship at Cornell University.

Back at Bell Labs in 1996, he developed the now named after him search algorithm and generalized it in 1998 on a variety of important problems of computer science. In 2000, he also developed a quantum algorithm that allowed fuzzy retrieval.
