Love Is a Many Splendored Thing is a pop song composed by Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster was texted by the eponymous feature film. The Erstinterpretation comes from the Four Aces, in this version, it was the first title song of a film, which reached number one on the 1955 Billboard charts.

Background

Movie producer Buddy Allen commissioned Sammy Fain and Paul Francis Webster, writing for his feature film A Many Splendored Thing - with William Holden and Jennifer Jones in the lead roles the title song. As Fain wanted to present the result to the producers, this informed him that the movie title in Love Is a Many Splendored Thing - has changed. Fain then wrote a new tune, which was recorded after approval by the composer in charge of film music Alfred Newman in the soundtrack. The original version was never recorded.

With a demo of the song known and successful contemporary artists such as Eddie Fisher, Tony Martin, Doris Day and Nat King Cole were asked to record the song, but all refused. The choice fell on The Four Aces, which recorded their version in 1955 and thus reached number one on the U.S. charts in October of that year, six weeks held the top position and 21 weeks were listed on the Billboard charts. The title was the most played song on the radio in 1955 and finished in the top-selling albums of the year 7th place At the Academy Awards 1956, the song won in the category of Best Song.

Subsequent use

After the success of the version of the Four Aces took all the artists had the song initially rejected, on her composure. In addition to the film Love Is a Many Splendored Thing - ( German title: Splendored Thing ) can be heard in a romantic beach scene with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John song in the movie musical Grease.
