Love You (album)

Occupation

The Beach Boys Love You is an album by the U.S. band The Beach Boys.

Formation

In 1977, the Beach Boys were consumed by power struggles. On the one hand there were the Wilson brothers Carl and Dennis, who wanted to continue to make music in the style of Smile. On the other hand, Mike Love and Alan Jardine, who referred to the resounding success of the hit compilations of 1975 and 1976: Endless Summer and Spirit of America landed on with number 1 and 8 each in the top top of the U.S. charts, 20 Golden Greats was to be found in many European countries ranked # 1. This hit - compilations contain the greatest Beach Boys hits of the 1960s, which were written by Brian Wilson. Therefore, Jardine and Love wanted to continue working with songs that sounded at least like the oldies. In the middle of Brian Wilson sat who joined any political group. The arguments within the band went so far that a faction refused to enter the studio if anyone was present from the other side.

1977 Brian Wilson had written many new songs and wanted to record with the band a new album. His astonishment was great when out of his brother Carl Wilson no other Beach Boy had appeared to the recording sessions. Alan and Mike did not want to enter the studio, Dennis Wilson was busy recording his first solo album, Pacific Ocean Blue, but tried as often as possible to attend the recording sessions.

Since the other Beach Boys were barely present, Brian Wilson took almost all the instruments on the songs themselves on, sang the lead vocals and produced the song. Carl Wilson acted as a mixdown producer. Dennis Wilson hum pervades the entire album. Alan Jardine took it to a song on the lead vocals, Mike Love is also very rare to hear something. He also worked at this time on his solo album First Love, which was never published.

Success

Mike Love and Alan Jardine had the record company Warner Bros. and Reprise Records declared that they would not renew the expiring contract. You already squinted with one eye on a record deal with Epic Records. Therefore, to promote the album Love You Warner Bros. refused.

The album Love You entered the U.S. Billboard charts only at # 53 However, the reviews turned out better than the previous album 15 Big Ones.
