Loveland [ lʌvlənd ] is a city in Hamilton County, Clermont County and Warren County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state of Ohio, 15 km south of Cincinnati, on the banks of the Little Miami. The population was 11,677 inhabitants at the 2000 census and was estimated in 2006 to 11,154 inhabitants.

History

Loveland originally lay on the edges of the Symmes Purchase and the Virginia Military District, the Northwest Territory. Colonel Thomas Paxton was in 1795 the first settlers in the area. The city is named after James Loveland, the postmaster and owner of a village shop near the railroad. Loveland was on 12 May 1876, an independent municipality in 1961 and it was elevated to a city with its own charter.
