Löwenstedt

Löwenstedt (Danish: Lyngsted or Lyngsæd, Frisian: Jöömst ) is a municipality in the district of North Friesland Schleswig -Holstein.

Geography and transport

The municipality is located on the Schleswig 's Geest. The name refers to the heath (Danish: Lyng ).

The community is located just west of Federal Highway 200 from Husum to Flensburg and 7 kilometers north of Viöl and about 20 kilometers northeast of Husum between Haselund and Joldelund. West of the village is situated the nature reserve Löwenstedter sand mountains where around 16 hectares of the original heath landscape of the region can be seen.

1926 received Löwenstedt a station on the railway line Flensburg- Husum and 1928 railway junction when the line was opened to Bredstedt. Since the stations were usually quite far away from the city centers, the volume of traffic was lower than expected. The branch line Bredstedt- Löwenstedt in 1942 was dismantled; the main line was decommissioned in 1959 and subsequently dismantled.

Policy

Municipal council

Of the nine seats in the municipal council, the three voters Communities AWGL, OWGL and WGL had three seats in the local elections of 2008. In the local elections on May 26, 2013 was attributable to the WGL four, the two AWGL and OWGL three seats.

Mayor

For the election period 2013-2018 Holger Jensen ( WGL) was elected mayor. He succeeded to Peter Thoröe ( AWGL ) of the Office held 15 years.

Economy

The community is mostly dominated by agriculture, mainly through dairy farming. In addition, there is a number of commercial enterprises in the municipality. In 2008, the former, 50 -acre ammunition depot of the Bundeswehr from a Chinese manufacturer was acquired for Fireworks. Löwenstedt is a pilot community for the ibid., founded on 1 February 2012 citizens Broadband Network GmbH & Co. KG. Culture

Löwenstedt belongs to the Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation Viöl. In the village itself there is a chapel which is used in addition to religious purposes also as a meeting place.
