Lowndes County (Georgia)

The Lowndes County is a county located in the state of Georgia in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Valdosta, named after a valley in Italy, where Governor George Troup had his possessions.

Geography

The County is located in southern Georgia, bordering on Florida's north and has an area of 1323 square kilometers, of which 17 square kilometers of water are bordered clockwise to the following counties: Lanier County, Echols County, Brooks County, Cook County and Berrien County.

History

Lowndes County was formed on December 23, 1825. It was named after William Lowndes, a statesman from South Carolina. The first was the county seat in 1828 in Franklinville, but 1837 Troupville moved to the surveyor of the railroad came. The inhabitants decided with the entire city about 5 km further to pull on the railway line. In 1860 it was renamed in Valdosta.

Since 1941, it houses the Moody Air Force Base, the United States Air Force.

The average age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males statistically every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.6 males.
