LSZ reduction formula

The LSZ reduction formula (after its discoverers, the German physicists Harry Lehmann, Kurt Symanzik and Wolfhart Zimmermann ) is a method to calculate the S-matrix elements of the scattering amplitude of the time-ordered correlation functions of a quantum field theory.

It is a fundamental intermediate step in the prediction of measurement results from the Lagrangian of the theory. The applications concern the whole of theoretical physics, far beyond the original intentions of the authors addition; e.g. you can use the method in the statistical physics to prove a general form as possible of the fluctuation-dissipation theorem.
