Løten

Løten is a Norwegian municipality in the Fylke Hedmark. It is bordered on the west by Hamar, to the north by Åmot, to the east of Elverum, in the southeast on Våler and on the southwest by rod. On March 31, 2013 7515 people lived in the community.

The name comes from the word norrönen Lautin, which is comprised loud ( Erdvertiefung ) and vin ( meadow). The writing form Løten dates from the early 19th century.

Løten was originally the most easterly place in Hedmark and has always been a way station between East and West. The old town was the coming of the 13th century church of Løten. When in 1862 the railway was taken Løten station was the new commercial and administrative center.

The distillery was founded in 1855 Løiten contributed greatly to the fame of soundings. 1927, the production of spirits was taken over by Vinmonopolet, but the production of raw spirit was continued until the 1990s. The traditional Løiten aquavit is now produced by the company Arcus AS.

Løten is also famous for its fine tradition in the hammer throw discipline and has produced some young talent. These now include Audun Nygård (* 1987), Erlend Vada (* 1983) and Maren Romstad (* 1983).
