LTJ Bukem

LTJ Bukem ( born January 1, 1967 in London when Daniel (Danny ) Williamson ) is a British DJ, musician and music producer.

Life

Daniel Williamson has spoken for the first time in a radio interview on BBC One with Fabio & Grooverider about his childhood, which he spent in foster care. From its separate biological parents of the father shall be Egyptians, his mother from Uganda. More or less on their own, he took refuge in the music before he learned trumpet, piano and percussion played in various school bands and soon discovered jazz itself. As a youth, he roamed through the clubs of West London and discovered increasingly DJing. Meanwhile, he is one of the notable drum -and- bass artists of our time.

Name

His nickname " Bukem " he got to school because of the similarity of his name to a character in the 1970's very successful American crime drama television series "Hawaii Five-O ". Finally, an episode of Detective Steve McGarrett was his partner Danny Williams usually command the criminal arrest, often with the phrase " Book'em, Danno! " (Paraphrased: "Purchase / Go get 'em, Danno !").

About the meaning of " LTJ " different theories are circulating. Possible resolutions are " El DJ " ( Spanish for "The DJ "), " Light The Joint" or " Long Jockey Turn " ( because of its long sets that send the ravers on an extensive, varied sound journey ).

Work

In 1991 he founded his own label " Good Looking Records ". Live it always occurs with MCs Conrad or sometimes with DRS. He published, in addition to the live recordings of "progression sessions", one with "Earth" series titled with collections of unpublished, of ambient drum -and- bass tracks. Another sub-label of goodlooking arose in the aftermath of downbeat tracks "Good Cooking Records ", or the sub-label " Looking Good Records " ( EAA ).

LTJ Bukem produces and plays a "lighter" version of drum and bass, which is based on soul, funk and jazz in the 1960s / 1970s. Formative are the ambient and chill-out areas on quick Jazz breakbeats around 170 BPM. With this kind of a more atmospheric drum and bass, he opened the genre increasingly listeners outside the club scene.

His distinctive glasses were a publicity stunt of a Berlin designer (IC Berlin).

Before every gig he does as a live band a sound check on the turntables and sound system to deliver the best quality.

As a label boss LTJ Bukem has increasingly become in recent years led to criticism because he too concentrated its work on the live events and thereby neglected the label work. The latest releases of goodlooking were already a few years back before then in 2008 a new publication on Good Looking appeared. The long waiting period until the new release reasoned Bukem so that he and the main crew have made the break they deserve work without leave after 10 years. Moreover, it is become more and more difficult to organize the largest drum -and- bass label with about forty artists. With the downsizing and the successful publication Goodlooking seems once again to be more active and rediscover the believed dead vinyl market.
