Lü Yue

Lü Yue (Chinese吕 乐/吕 乐, Pinyin Lǚ Yue; born December 1, 1957 in Tianjin, People's Republic of China) is a Chinese cinematographer and film director.

Life

He studied from 1978 at the Beijing Film Academy and began his career after graduating as a cameraman. As such, he was in 1984 involved in a film, for Tian Lie chang zha sha Zhuangzhuangs. This was filmed in Mongolia. He then worked with Yim Ho and Huang Shuqin.

Lü was known for his collaboration with director Zhang Yimou. This together he created the films life! (1994 ), Shanghai Triad (1995 ) and You hua hao hao shuo (1997). For Shanghai Triad, he won several awards; such as the New York Film Critics Circle Award and the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Award. For the same film, he was the " best camera " nominated at the Oscar Awards 1996. In the directorial debut of actress Joan Chen, Tian yu (1998), he not only took the camera, but also a acting role as the father of fifteen-year main character.

Between 1987 and 1992 he lived partly in France. The French TV La Sept 1987 produced the documentary Nujiang - the lost valley, his first work as a director. His feature film debut was in 1998 with Zhao Xiansheng a teacher who can not decide between wife and lover. The film was awarded at the International Film Festival of Locarno Golden Leopard. Mei ren cao (2003), Xiaoshuo (2006) and Shi san ke pao tong (2006) also created under his aegis. Xiaoshuo was listed in the section Orizzonti at the International Film Festival in Venice in 2007.
