Luau

A luau (also Lu'au, Luau ) is the name for festivals in Hawaii, derived from the term for Tarospitzen. The combination of hula demonstration and traditional food is offered on all islands. The events are very different. In addition to the Old Lahaina Luau, which is considered relatively authentic, even more Polynesian luau with accent where dances and customs of Tahiti, Samoa, among others are offered, are shown.

In addition to the dance performances is the traditional Hawaiian food center of the luau, to an earth oven Imu is often used. To this end, a depression in the earth is lined with hot stones. A Kalua pig is wrapped in banana and Ti leaves, laid on the stones and covered with earth. Over a period of about nine hours the pig is cooked in the imu. Also Laulau, a wrapped in Ti leaves mixture of beef, pork, chicken or fish with Tarospitzen is baked in the imu.

Family feasts of Hawaii's people are also called luau. Again play certain food and social gatherings with music and hula an important role, but it comes out more on the maintenance of social relationships on, especially in the context of the (extended) family (Hawaiian Ohana ).
