Lubaantun

The former ceremonial center was built by the Maya in the Late Classic period ( 700-900 AD) erected in the next ceremonies and feasts were held and ball games.

The interesting thing Lubaantun is the fact that the buildings were built of large limestone blocks without mortar binding. The stones were rather trimmed so precisely that they fit exactly to one another. That fact led in the following centuries (as the Maya had already given the place ) meant that many stone blocks were unstable due to the yielding ground and slid down (the name Lubaantun means in the modern Mayan language also "place of fallen stones " ).

In Lubaantun the famous and still mysterious Mitchell -Hedges crystal skull was allegedly found.
