Lubny

Lubny (Ukrainian Лубни; Лубны Russian, Polish Lubny ) is a city in central Ukraine Poltava Oblast on the right bank of the river Sula, with around 48,000 inhabitants. It is the administrative seat of the homonymous Rajons, but which she does not belong as a county-level city. The town's name derives from the Slavic word Lubno ( wooden ).

History

The foundation of the town was 988 at the direction of Kiev Grand Prince Volodymyr Swjatoslawytch ( Ukr: Володимир Святославич ). Lubny first remained for a long time only a fortified village. After the period of Mongol rule could develop up to be a city, which led the Magdeburg Law in the 15th / 16th century and had its own stamp and own coat of arms. Education, business, traffic

At further education institutions Lubny has among other a technical center for forestry and accounting, a technical school of the Southern Railway Company and a medical establishment.
